New Moon in Leo: Why the Drama Queen Retires Her Crown

Dear Queens (literally),

I remember a friend once saying she didn’t need to buy cable–she could just listen to me retelling the latest stories from my life. And while she sweetly offered those words, they never landed as a compliment.

I don’t remember the exact day I laid down my sash, put away the crown of a Drama Queen, but the sun was pouring in the tiny room where I’d just received a Reiki session that had left me in a place of peace and contentment.

The depth of these quiet feelings was so profound that I made a vow then and there to move my life in the opposite direction of the drama that had consistently shown up in the first 40 years of my life.

I’d grown tired of the daily highs and lows and the weekly twists and turns that were writing my life’s story that felt more like a daytime drama, one I often blamed on others for creating.

At some point, I realized I was directing the whole damn show.

So quite unceremoniously, I retired the archetype of the Drama QueenShe’d had too long of a reign. Eventually, through much healing work, I turned on some other Leo archetypes: The Queen, the Creator and the Star out of sheer gratitude for having been given a lot of grace for someone who’d felt a lot of pain. It was time to give back.

And in reflecting on the Leo energy this New Moon, July 31st at 8:11 pm PST, I can see how She, the Drama Queen, is trying to stage a return engagement this summer with all this eclipse and retrograde energy flowing in and out of our lives, twisting and turning the Romantic plot of the Storybook Love we’ve been trying to write.

Maybe you’ve noticed Her showing up in your own life in the limitless roles She plays. She’s highly creative–and unabashedly expressive.

So why is She here? What role does She play?

Many of us have experienced trauma (emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually) created through broken hearts (ours and others) delivered to us in many forms.

These are real experiences we’ve had and our bodies as the Record Keepers know and keep the score with the memories of these incidents stored in every cell of our being, so when the healing does not happen, our wounded selves remember and start acting out…

…grandiose story-telling, unrequited love, emotional blowups, angry encounters, careless sex, a night of bingeing, compulsive lateness, cluttered spaces, overgiving and overspending, an impossibly busy life, a feud with the neighbour, conflicts with a difficult relative, disastrous email and text message exchanges, tearful confessions, emotional and/or physical affairs– some of the unhealthy ways the hurting parts of ourselves demand attention to be heard, held and healed.

Maybe you’d describe Her differently.  Maybe you’d call Her something else. It’s not the label that’s as important as the energy and the acknowledgement that we could have parts of our psyche begging for some loving attention.

Honestly, you might not see the Drama Queen/King in you at all (can you then please be my friend????).

Perhaps you notice Him or Her on TV, in a co-worker, in a political leader or in a sibling. Maybe this person’s behaviour is so outrageous and so far from your own code of conduct that you might be unaware of this energy going on inside and outside of you.

Often what we do not acknowledge in ourselves, we will project and see in some way in some other person–often in people closest to us.

(IMPORTANT FYI and BTW: This projection thing goes both ways for the wonderful things you see in another and not yourself. If you love some quality about someone else–their humour, their leadership abilities, their beauty, their creativity, their grace–you’ve likely tucked that quality away in your subconscious, not seeing or accepting that this quality is inside of you just waiting to be called forth.)

So do we give our inner Drama Queen a voice, acknowledge Her role in our lives and see why She’s acting out?

Yes, we do.

Trying to silence Her with a quick and easy bypass without getting to the why’s and how’s of Her prolonged reign. We can give Her our time, hear Her out and help Her mature into the true Queen that She is.

Here are a few ways to start the process:

  1. Write out all the ways you feel that your life might be fueled by the energy of drama (and it could be as simple as running late all the time or procrastinating on your deadlines).
  2. New Moons are that precious time to affirm what you DO want. Who do you want to become? Is it the Strong Queen/King, the Empowered Queen, the Sovereign Queen, the Queen of Beauty, Light, Love, Freedom, Magic, Delight, or Compassion? How will She show up in each area of your life? Describe Her in detail. Close your eyes and visualize yourself as Her at work, in your relationships, walking this planet. How do you feel?
  3. In your New Moon ceremony, draw and decorate a crown that represents the qualities you want your Queen to represent. (Yes, get that glitter gun out!). This may seem like a simple practice, but this type of action powerfully reprograms the subconscious.

At the energetic peak of the summer season, Leo is a Leader, a Spiritual Warrior for the Light infused with a fiery, joyful energy that’s looking for full creative self-expression.

With the initiations from the eclipses and retrogrades, we have some integrating to do with all raw material that has risen up from our subconscious to heal the places where we’ve been stuck through trauma, limiting beliefs, old stories that we truly need to surrender. We need the Queen to lead more than ever.

Eclipses and retrogrades have the potential to travel to the heart of any matter that needs some light and this Leo New Moon is here to bring the heart safely back Home.

Ask for greater courage to rise and move your life forward into the next stages of its required evolution.

No limits, no holding back. It’s not worth it.

Take a breath here and now visualize yourself with all this Leo light leading you to a dressing room built for a Royal like you. Walk over to the shelf where you’ll see your sparkly new crown, lift it from its box and place it ceremoniously on your head.

Go ahead, Queen. Look in the mirror. Stand in your power and claim what you want. Live in and from this light. It’s your time to reign.

Love
the Queen of Inspired Purpose
and of True Love,
Jenn

  3. Wow. Truly a beautiful and timely writing and insight. I’ve been very overwhelmed by the drama and caught up in reliving some trauma these past few weeks, to a point I could see myself reacting and not knowing how to shift the energy, with all the insight it still bowled me over. I appreciate this focus on what I want. Tonight is the night. We just moved into a new home, time for ceremony and new direction. Thank you. Love your writings.

  5. Oh my goodness! On point, as usual… My paranoid Queen showed up this week and it took me all my might not to be annoyed and frustrated… It worked though. Listening to her is always, always the best solution. Don’t get me wrong, listening to her doesn’t mean I’m gonna act on her “advice”, but it’s certainly brought very interesting and important information to my attention. And it made me feel just more love for her. There’s hope. ❤️

    1. Wow. Amazing. There can be so much grace in the process. And yes, I believe we have to listen to these parts of us that are “acting out/up” because they do have important keys for us. I love that in the end even though it may have been a challenging week with Her, you just felt more love…and hope!! xoxo
